Online Teacher Social Networking and CPD
Connectivism, Social Networks, Teacher CPD, Naace2007, Dissertation, Presentations & Workshops 2656 viewsLast week I led a session at the Naace Strategic conference on Social Networking and CPD. Leon Cych very kindly videoed it and then did all the editing etc to get it online.
There was so much to say, and so much that I had to leave out. The main thrust that I was trying to get across was:
- Professional development is (or should be) an essential part of every learning professionals daily life.
- Building up a personal, wide network of trusted sources with whom you can engage is a highly effective means of CPD
- Using RSS & blogs as the means of building this personal network is extremely efficient and effective.
But it all starts from the first of these. We need to build a culture where professionals are expected to take responsibility for their own CPD.

Good presentation, Mark. I hope you sowed the seed in a few more minds. I was tickled to see my own picture among those on your network - right up there with Downes and Siemens - fame at last!-)
The learning journey never ends - it helps if it’s a pleasant one!
Good presentation Mark - it just still worries me that many colleagues still do not really ‘get’ RSS in terms of CPD - I think Qunetin D’Souza’s RSS document is still very much the best description of practical ways in which it can be used - here are several documents:

Yes, Leon, I agree. There’s potential there for a whole practical workshop just on RSS for CPD. There’s so much you could look at:
Edtechtalk
Blogdigger
Guardian Job search
Blogs
etc, etc
