Good balanced piece. The LMS/VLE is far from being dead or dying. They serve far too useful a purpose. I also think the Moddle/Totara open source approach has given it a shot in the arm. The danger for me is its slide towards ‘Talent management’. As LMSs slip down this slippery slope, we’re in real trouble.

I think I’m with you on the Talent Management side of things - it’s so dependent on high quality data (which is usually in short supply in my experience) that I can’t see it ever really working in practice.
